Dark Squared Text Generator for Stamped Heavy Labels
White letters knocked out of solid black squares, closer to a rubber stamp than a typeface.

Dark squared takes the boxed alphabet and fills each frame, leaving the letter as negative space. The contrast is the point: a handful of words becomes a band of solid blocks that reads from across a room. It suits warning labels, chapter titles and thumbnails, while longer runs of text become heavy to look at.
Where people use it
- Stamp a warning or an urgent line across a notice.
- Chapter a long post or a document with bold section marks.
- Make a thumbnail label that survives being scaled down.
- Give a workshop or hardware project a stencilled title.
Frequently asked
- Is dark squared hard to read for long text?
- Yes. The filled blocks carry a lot of weight, so it works best for a few words. Switch back to plain text for the body of a message.
- Does it need a dark background?
- No, but it does look better on a light one, because the letters are the light part and the squares are dark.
- Can I remove the squares and keep the letters?
- No - the square is part of the character. Choose a plain or bold style instead if you only want the letter shapes.
